Academic Dissertation: Tips for Successful Writing

Academic dissertation is the longest, time consuming, the most difficult and probably the most significant project you have faced with since you went to kindergarten for the first time. Now you’re about to obtain the PhD but the only obstacle you need to overcome on the way to it is academic dissertation writing.

Work with your tutor as much as possible. Before you start writing find out how often you’re required to submit the drafts, have meetings with your tutor to make sure you have progress. Don’t be shy to ask additional questions and to let your professor know when you need frequent sessions and when you need to be left alone.

Keep in touch with your committee. While some students forget about them after the proposal defense till the final presentation, it is recommended to engage them in your dissertation wiring process.  The thing is that custom dissertation committee may even provide you with possible suggestions in case if you suddenly hit the roadblock in paper writing or research.

You have to understand that a dissertation writing task is assigned to you to support a hypothesis or a theory. Thus, the doctoral committee would like to see your paper both substantive and original. The key is not data from experiments but critical thinking, so while facts are crucial, it is more important to show to the custom dissertation committee how you can use these facts to provide your thesis with support.

Write your dissertation thinking about every word and every single phrase to make it perfect. Just because this paper should be long doesn’t mean that you have an excuse to ramble.  Your punctuation, grammar, spelling must be perfect, the context should be well-structured and terminology understandable. Moreover, the paper should be logical.

Try to be flexible. Don’t b afraid to change the topic. Remember, you’re not the first and not the last to do that. Keep your tutor and committee members informed, but keep in mind, that not every person on Earth stick to the schedule he or she has worked out. Every time you are able to drop some portions of your paper.

Manage your time. Develop a special schedule to stick to. If you know that you work best in the afternoon or in the morning – make sure you have enough time to work when you feel comfortable to. Set a number of goals for every day of writing. For instance, “I’m gong to writing N pages till 5:00”. Be polite with the others but make sure you can say “no” when they are trying to steal your attention. The atmosphere at home may be distractive, but you can also work at the library. Avail of dissertation editing service if needed.

Take care of yourself. Dissertation is a tiresome task, thus, you need to provide a lot of time to accomplish it. Nonetheless, don’t turn yourself into the kind of person that has neither personal life nor friends to go out. Sleep, laugh and love are as important as the PhD you’re dreaming about.
